Flint, MI – Every spring and summer there are dozens of ways you can volunteer at neighborhood clean-ups, park, river and trail clean-up events. There can never be too many volunteers for these events!
Kettering Students help keep Flint looking good!
To make it easy for you, your group or family to join in these efforts we are providing a list of great opportunities with dates, times, locations and contact information.

Hundreds of people made Martin Luther King Jr. time a day on instead of a day off this year and had a great time helping others!
Davenport University and Mott Community College both hosted amazing volunteer events where we made fleece blankets. The blankets will go to veterans recovering from injuries, to elderly people and others.
The University of Michigan-Flint hosted a variety of volunteer opportunities at nonprofit organizations throughout Flint including Genesee County Habitat for Humanity and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint.
Kettering University had students volunteering with the Flint Public Library which always hosts an array of vibrant speakers, singers, dancers and crafts.
Baker College did a wonderful job of connecting volunteers to children and others. Volunteers read books to the kids and even helped host a birthday party at a local convalescent home.
In all, hundreds of people gave of their time on a day when most who had the day off were just kicking back and doing their own thing.
Remember, he who leads is the servant of all. Great job by these servant leaders!
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the Presidential Inauguration both take place on Monday, January 21, 2013! You can mark this double-whammy federal holiday by serving others in our community.
Davenport University is hosting a project perfect for adults or teens. They will be making fleece blankets for veterans and service members who are recovering from illness or injury. If you can cut and tie fabric, you can do this! No sewing involved. Sign up for the morning or afternoon session through HandsOnGenesee.org
Baker College of Flint is coming back this year with its second project involving reading to children or to people in nursing homes. Volunteers will be reading to children at Carriage Town Ministries, My First School pre-school (Bristol Rd., Flint, MI,) as well as to Seniors at Wisdom Living Senior Assisted Living Center & Kith Haven Nursing & Rehab Center.
Books will be provided and will be given to the children at Carriage Town as gifts and magazines will be provided to read to the residents at Wisdom Living Senior Assisted Living Center & Kith Haven. Volunteers who wish to work with seniors at Kith Haven can assist with an MLK Day Birthday party for the residents from 2:00-3:00pm.
You must sign up in advance for this reading project. You can do that at HandsOnGenesee.org.
Life’s most urgent and persistent question is: What are you doing for others?
